Manabo enlists BPATs in emergency response
by PIA Abra

MANABO, Abra – Involvement in emergency response is a noble and humanitarian act and obligation.

Members of the Barangay Peace Action Teams (BPATs) in Manabo underwent another two-day training on advance Disaster Preparedness and Response on May 2 and 3.

The advance training on disaster preparedness and response for the BPATs was initiated by Engr. Francis A. Blancaflor, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer.

The training staff of the Philippine Red Cross-Abra under the leadership of Ivy Venus S. Avendaño served as speakers and facilitators in the training of the BPATs as volunteer members of the Manabo Emergency Responders. These volunteers will now take care of the emergency response in their respective barangays in times of calamities.

Meanwhile, the 30 regular members of the MDRRM Emergency Response Teams also continue to undergo regular trainings on the different aspects of emergency response and Basic Life Support to refresh their skills and to sustain their commitments in emergency response to attain the Local DRRMC’s aim of zero-casualty in times of calamities.

Manabo had been incurring losses in the past year’s floods as the different barangays of the municipality are situated along rivers and creeks that swell during the rainy season.

The MDRRM Office has a permanent personnel and regular emergency responders composed of 30 trained members but also with appropriate rescue equipment and a vehicle for mobilization.
