‘Libro ni Abrenio’ reinforces contextualized learning system
by Susan C. Aro / PIO

BANGUED, Abra – An educator whose selfless service and dedication in introducing learning and teaching innovations among Abrenios is instrumental in the development of contextualized learning materials reinforced through the years and responsive amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Education Supervisor Ronald T. Marquez of the Department of Education-Abra Schools Division conceptualized the Libro ni Abrenio, which started seven years ago.

Libro ni Abrenio is a contextualized enhancement project where teachers and school heads establish their learning resource center (LRC).

It serves as venue for continuous enhancement training and quality assurance as well as support mechanism for quality teaching and learning process to K to 12 learners and out-of-school youth in the province.

It is contextualized because it resembles an open book that offers learning and teaching experiences and opportunities to Abra learners and educators integrating indigenous knowledge, local stories, traditions and culture, he said.

The platform also offers activities, which aim to continuously advocate, inform, upskill, and reskill Abra educators in relation to their tasks and in accordance to the learning resource management processes.

“The chapters of the Libro ni Abrenio never ends but it incessantly turns pages and shares meaningful colorful lines and images of continual quality education, love for humanity and faith in God,” Marquez said.

DepEd-Abra Schools Division Superintendent Benilda Daytaca said the LRC has become a repository of learning materials since 2015.

These are contextualized, meaning materials could be based from the local set up and are prepared by learners. It has become a very responsive repository of contextualized materials during the pandemic, she said.

Daytaca said the Libro ni Abrenio is so helpful in responding to school learning and teaching needs and has branched out to Basa ni Abrenio incorporating “reading which is an essential tool in student learning and also very crucial in distance learning.”

With Marquez’s project, DepEd-Abra will continue to respond and sustain integrity as this is part of the activities and best practices subsumed in its banner branding strategy Silnag.

With such innovation, “We sustain integrity, lead and nurture Abrenians for greater accomplishments.”

“The stories of the Abrenios will always be an open book for the generations to come,” he said.

For his work performance and outstanding contribution in the establishment of Libro ni Abrenio Resource Centers in schools, Marquez was nominated to the Civil Service Commission-CAR in Honor Awards Program.

Last September during the 124th Civil Service Commission anniversary, Marquez was conferred the Pag-asa awards under the individual category at the regional level for 2021.

“Truly I believe that this award sees no gender. This is what I’m thankful for. This is an equal opportunity for us, Abrenios, who have done and are doing beyond the process of documentation,” Marquez said.

“What matters is the selfless service we offer to the world. I urge and motivate each one who is inspired with the unparalleled smile and satisfaction of their clients, community, individuals and fellow Abrenios.”
