Rejoicing everyday

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Each day the Lord brings us reasons to rejoice.

When my husband brings me coffee after work, I take delight in his thoughtfulness. When my kids help me in the household chores, I feel loved and valued. When my students send me simple messages, I feel inspired and reinvigorated. As I remember all the good things I have in life, the people I care about, and my achievements, I realize that I have a lot to be thankful for. Really, there is always something good in every day.

We all go through different life experiences. Some are filled with joy and others with sorrow and uncertainty. Every day that we live is a gift from God. This is merely the reason it’s called present. But sometimes, we are dampened by so many things, necessary or not, in our lives and sadly we cannot move on so we tend to shift our focus to the past. As a result, we spend a part of the day worrying, being anxious about these unpleasant experiences, and wasting the precious gift of life we’ve been granted by the Supreme Being.

Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us today our daily bread.” Each day we have to eat. Yesterday’s meal will not tide us over. Everyday has its own agenda, its own blessings, and its own challenges and triumphs. Live in the moment now. Each day let’s thank God that we can eat, drink, get dressed, and seek to do His will now.

Let’s eradicate the past from our minds. As others say, yesterday is a cancelled check, tomorrow is a promissory note, but today is cash so we have to spend it wisely. Certainly, there’s not a day that passes that we don’t need the Lord’s admonition to be anxious for nothing. But for sure, He will work everything out. He has ordered this every single day so let us rejoice in it as a gift from Him. Let’s take time to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, a beautiful day, time spent laughing with friends, the flowers in full bloom. There are many positive things happening around us every day. Let us learn to stop, notice and appreciate them. Life is a miracle for us to enjoy as much as we possibly can.

The use of time, the habits of our thoughts, the health of our emotions, and the quality or our words and actions toward one another are positively influenced by this life-cleansing joy in the love, kindness, and power of God. Our worship time, volunteer work, giving of time both to the church and to people in need, and participation in small groups work in our lives and in the lives of others.

Today is a great opportunity we have to live. Let’s treat this moment right now as if it’s our last because it might be. Let’s be kind today. Lift up the Lord today. Share something with someone today.
