Apayao barangay planning workshop for recovery plan
by Jaylord Agpuldo

LUNA, Apayao – To ensure inclusive participation of the barangays in the process of formulating the Apayao 2021-2022 Recovery and Resiliency Plan, the provincial government is conducting marathon consultative development planning workshops with barangay chairmen.

Three one-day planning workshops were conducted consecutively from Sept. 1 to 3 in Luna, Conner, and Flora, where interventions along economic and health sectors aimed at sustaining food security, community empowerment and spurring overall socio-economic recovery in the different barangays amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s about time for us to think on how we can recover from our losses, embrace our new normal lives and make living sustainable in Apayao,” Governor Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang said.

Among the interventions considered to bolster economic activities in the barangays include venturing into commodity-based livelihood activities, livestock, poultry and agri-fishery production, investing capital to accredited people’s organizations and capacity building and skills training for small scale enterprises, processing and marketing.

Backyard vegetable gardening as a practice that notably yielded positive impact not only to the individual households but in the entire province is also encouraged to be expanded.

“We will strive to continue living with the use of our own resources,” Begtang said as a challenge to the barangay officials for them to develop self-sufficiency and resiliency.

DILG Provincial Director Marvin Basquez that the said activity is in line with the COVID-19 National Action Plan that requires all agencies and instrumentalities of the government particularly the local government units to come-up with recovery and resiliency plans towards the new normal.

The provincial government hopes to wrap up the remaining planning workshops in Calanasan, Kabugao, Sta. Marcela and Pudtol within the month.
