RIZAL, Kalinga – With many cooperatives going bankrupt or delisted from the list of the Cooperative Development Authority this grassroots cooperative is enjoying phenomenal growth.

From only a P16,000 paid up capital in 2011, the San Pedro Community Pumiyaan Consumers Cooperative (SPCPCC) now has P609,351.66 total asset as of 2013.

From 36 members in 2011, membership also grew to 100 last year with 64 female members and 36 male.

SPCPCC was organized under the Pumiyaan, a poverty alleviation project of the provincial government. It aims to alleviate the status of poor barangays identified as pilot areas of the convergence project.

The provincial government provided the cooperative a P100,000 loan. The principal amount was reloaned to members at three percent interest, said Ronald Jose of the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO).

The allotment was in response to the desire of the communities living below the poverty threshold to have financial resources to help them in their agricultural production.

Jose said SPCPCC is now offering services on credit, banking, educational, and sustenance of the barangay food terminal. Particularly, loans are offered for the purchase of agricultural inputs and address providential needs.

Because of its phenomenal performance, SPCPCC was awarded most outstanding micro-coop receiving P15,000 prize and a plaque.

SPCPCC is  managed by Reden Agpad and the board of directors are Ruben Agpad as chair; Sagmayao Arfi-ab, vice chair, Joefrey Baddongen, Jose Labbutan, and Fernando Ongat as  members.

Meanwhile, the PCDO conducted a pre-membership seminar at Socbot, Pinukpuk on March 31, another pilot area for the Pumiyaan project.
