Various groups in Baguio continue to receive livelihood grants with Dizon-Manzanillo barangay as the latest recipient of six industrial sewing machines and other materials last week.

The donated sewing machines and livelihood materials are worth more P260, 000.

The grant is in line with the livelihood program of the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, and the office of Baguio Rep. Nicasio Aliping Jr.

Under the collaborative setup, the Congressman’s Office recommends concerned agencies for livelihood grants while the DTI and Technical Educational Skills and Development Authority provide the trainings.

After the concerned members of groups underwent training, DOLE will provide fund assistance through donation of materials and equipment.

Dizon-Manzanillo barangay, which is headed by Punong Barangay George Banayos, also inaugurated the livelihood center, which was set up compliments of Gurmej Singh Reandi, who donated the building and the lot.

Banayos said the donation made the livelihood project possible.

Aliping thanked the lot donor and the barangay for their unity and cooperation, saying these are crucial in attaining development at the grassroots level.

“The reason why government agencies and good hearted private individuals come to help is because they see your unity, of your barangay helping each other,” Aliping said.

The barangay-based livelihood program has benefited 10 barangays and organizations in the city, according to the city solon.

Mines View Integrated Livelihood Association, which is composed of 20 parents, received P100,000 for their peanut butter production while Gibraltar Pag-asa Livelihood Association also got P100,000 for knitting and weaving souvenir items.

The Sto. Tomas Proper Women’s Association is also a recipient of P100,000 for its meat processing while the United Dagsian Livelihood Association received the biggest fund support of P499,180 for the operation of a bakeshop.
