Kabayan unveils climb to Mt Al–al
Jimmy K. Laking
Environment, 4-13-2014

Kabayan Mayor Faustino Aquisan unveiled last week a three-day Holy Week package consisting of an alternate climb to Mt. Al-al, a mountain adjacent to Mt. Pulag that boasts of intact forest life.

“It is also home to a variety of indigenous bird species, some of which hikers will be seeing for the first time,” he said.

He said the tourist town has decided to come up with a separate climb in a bid to decongest the number of tourists that preferred go to up Mt. Pulag during the Holy Week.

The three-day adventure package consists of a tour of the Tabeo Lake in Barangay Ballay as well as trekking to the smaller lakes.

The trek passes through mossy forests and along spots where birds are to known to pass by in flocks.

Aquisan said the lakeside of Tabeo is one of best places to view the sunset.

Municipal officials said the climb to Mt. Pulag has been scheduled for May 1 to 3 which will culminate in festivities with the community.

The land-locked town is in the midst of its 7th Eco-Tourism and Bendiyan Festival meant to showcase the land-locked town’s tourism assets and to spread goodwill.

“It is a good time to visit the town and to partake of the activities,” he said, adding the town is primed up to welcome the expected surge of visitors and tourists.

The town has honored last week its three surviving WWII veterans in Ogao Abag, Iw-iw Matias, and Julio Cariño who are in their 90s.

Board members Robert Namorro, Benjamin Saguid, and Esteban Piok graced the activities as spokespersons.

Aquisan said municipal officials and employees are looking forward to the two-day bonding scheduled on April 15 and 16 at the top of Mt. Pulag itself.

Their participation is also expected to give added prestige to the Ballay barangay fiesta scheduled from April 14 to 19.

Aquisan said Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas has been invited as guest speaker on May 3, during the culmination of the Bindiyan festival.
