Banaue dad forms movement for responsible parenthood
Daniel B. Codamon / PIA
Health, 4-13-2014

BANAUE, Ifugao – Mayor Jerry Dalipog created a responsible parenting movement and designated a municipal population officer as the focal person in the implementation of responsible parenthood and natural family planning (RP-NFP) program in the municipality.

Dalipog said this is in line with the national government-issued directive on responsible parenting movement and NFP to empower Filipino families through responsible parenting by making couples aware of basic responsibilities as parents. Local government units are in charge in its implementation.

This also gives the LGUs the liberty to promote artificial family planning while the national government advocates scientific and natural family planning technologies.

Dalipog assumes as chair of the movement and Vice Mayor Joel Bungallon as vice chair. Members are Municipal Health Officer Lorna Baga, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Blandina Campos, Association of Barangay Councils president Geno-veva Pocopio, School Nurse Rosa Bahatan, Municipal Treasurer Martha Ballangi, and Municipal Civil Registrar Gertrude Daguio.

Municipal Public Health Nurse II Romana Lingan has been designated as population officer.

The responsible parenting movement is tasked to organize the RP-NFP team at the municipal and barangay levels, ensure that the barangay RP-NFP team and community health workers perform their functions, continuously sustain the barangay RP-NFP, coordinate the conduct of municipal trainers training on RP-NFP, keep a master list of all NFP users and attendees of the RP-NFP classes, and keep a master list of couple mentors or providers.

Dalipog also reorganized and expanded the composition of the Local Poverty Action Team.

The team is now composed of the mayor as chair with Jimmy Cabbigat representing the civil society organizations as vice chair.

Members are 15 LGU officials and 15 from the various CSOs in the municipality. Three members from the municipal government compose the secretariat.

The Local Poverty Action Team will spearhead the formulation and monitoring of the local poverty reduction action plan, conduct a workshop or series of workshops to formulate the plan and shall review and validate the latest relevant data specified in the Municipal Comprehensive Development Plan, Comprehensive Land Use Plan, executive-legislative agenda, and the Annual Investment Program.
