Anton clinches top driver plum at 18th AAP awards

Sports, 4-13-2014

The country’s top racer Carlos Anton was conferred the top driver award by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) at the 18th annual awards night at the Manila International Auto Show on April 4.

“I feel so blessed by God to receive this award from the AAP.  It has been six years since I raced in touring cars and it’s good to know we are still competitive,” said Anton.

Anton clinched the award for his previous excellent performances in racing. The last time he received the top driver award from AAP was six years ago for hill climb racing.

Anton, who is now busy guiding his nine-year-old son Iñigo in venturing into the same sport, decided to go back to circuit racing this year after he was tapped by Ethanworx-Woks Bell Japan to pilot their car for Division 1 in the Philippine Touring Car Championship.

The Castrol-Yokohama Champion driver is indisputably the country’s most diverse and talented driver of his generation winning titles in eight different disciplines over the last 25 years of his career that include Slalom, Karting, Autocross, Rallycross, Touring Cars, Time Attack, Formula Cars, and Hillclimb.

Anton is backed by Castrol, Yokohama, Works Bell brakes, Mark Young Racing, Ethanworx, View Park Hotel, Hornitex, Autoshack and Special Stage.

In December 2013, he became the overall champion in the Philippine Touring Car Championship at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

Anton took home six hill climb titles from 2007 to 2012, an autocross title in 2009, a time Attack title in 2012, and the Champion of Champions race in 2012 before returning to touring cars in 2013 with EthanWorx racing.
