SAN QUINTIN, Abra – True to his commitment to maximize the utilization of the 20 percent economic development fund of the local government unit, mayor Amador Diaz of this frontier municipality used almost all of the LGU’s funds for the various schools and component barangays.
Municipal planning and development coordinator Elvira Cabilan proudly enumerated the economic development programs and projects of the LGU. The motorized banca worth P80,000 which was badly needed by the constituents across the Abra River was purchased in time for the rainy season last year. Barangay Tangadan was given P250,000 for the installation of two units of artesian wells and a water pump with hose.
Barangay Pantoc got the biggest slice in the pie of the LGU funds last year with the electrification of Sitio Sabulod with a total fund of P450,000; the riprapping of the school perimeter; installation of box culverts; and improvement of the barangay plaza in the amount of P266,558.20. The infrastructure development was likewise sustained and expanded to schools.
The LGU constructed a new social hall in the amount of P250,000 and the bleachers and shade in the town plaza with a fund of P400,000. The LGU constructed a computer building for the San Quintin National High School in the amount of P300,000; concreted the school playground and multi-purpose pavement of the Villa Mercedes Elementary School in the amount of P200,000; constructed the school stage in the Tangadan Elementary School worth P150,000 plus the repair of two units of school building also in Tangadan Elementary School with a total project cost of P350,000. The barangay hall of Tangadan was also renovated with a total cost of P150,000.
On the health aspect, the Clean and Green Program of the national government which is now institutionalized was sustained. Last year, Barangay Poblacion won the first prize with a multicab as the award.
