Benguet, 1/11/2009

TUBA, Benguet – Environment Sec. Joselito Atienza will be the guest of honor and speaker during the 48th community fiesta of the Philex Mining Corporation here which will be held on Jan. 16-18.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Conquering challenges for a successful mining operation.”

Lawyer Eduardo Aratas, chief of Philex’s legal division, said the three-day community fiesta will start with a cañao where the company will give out meat worth P200 to regular employees.

Said day is called the Labor-Management-Contractors Fun Day where the work force of the company which is composed of the management, the unions representing the regular work force, and the legitimate contractors, will be given a chance to bond through various community activities to bolster camaraderie. The lined up activities include sports and parlor games at the Philex Sports Center.

In the evening of Jan. 16, the company will be hosting a fiesta ball.

Dr. Walter Brown, Philex chief executive officer and chairperson of the board and other company officials will spearhead the celebration.

Atienza will be leading the second day of the fiesta when he graces the Araw ng Parangal on Jan. 17 where employees who worked with the company for a good number of years will be awarded their loyalty recognition.

A sportsfest will be held on the last day with Philex feting visiting teams from the neighboring communities.
