VP Binay hails LT subdivision as a model in decent housing
by Jimmy K. Laking

Vice President Jejomar Binay, who sits as chair of PagIBIG last week hailed the P180-million Mega Real Housing Project in Shilan, La Trinidad as a model in providing decent housing to beneficiaries, adding it is worthy of support and emulation.

He said the housing project is the largest development funded by the PagIBIG Fund nationwide under the Group Land Acquisition and Development program.

Binay witnessed the turnover of the project by the contractor to municipal officials headed by Mayor Edna Tabanda. On hand to witness the turnover were Gov. Nestor Fongwan and mayors Benito Siadto, Peter Alos, and Robert Canuto of the municipalities of Kibungan, Atok and Kapangan, respectively.

The project sits on 11 hectares of land in Barangay Shilan that was subdivided among 365 members of the cooperative.

Binay lauded the Mega Real Housing cooperative for opening its membership to a cross-section of society that includes office workers, vegetable disposers at the La Trinidad Trading Post, and to professionals.

“Not everybody is given this opportunity to acquire space for decent housing,” he said. “In this sense, the beneficiaries indeed are fortunate that Mega Real Housing Cooperative was formed.”

Tabanda said the town was blessed for acquiring a meaningful project in the form of the subdivision.

Parish priest Fr. Benny Castañeda described the subdivision project as a key stone in the building communities.

Binay had earlier inaugurated the proposed Police Regional Office-Cordillera housing project in Tawang, La Trinidad that comprised of 2.5 hectares for 89 policemen and their families.

The project will also be funded by the Group Land Acquisition and Development Program of PagIBIG.

Lawyer Rodrigo Kito, chair of Mega Real Cooperative, thanked the coop’s members for their steadfast support over a five-year period that began with the acquisition of the lot up to the time the PagIBIG approved its application for multi-million fund assistance.
