BENECO energizes 487 HH in Kapangan
by Press release

The Benguet Electric Cooperative recently energized 487 households in the four barangays of Kapangan, Benguet as part of the Nationwide Intensification of Housing Electrification (NIHE) Project.

That work elicited a resolution of gratitude from the Sangguniang Bayan of Kapangan headed by Vice Mayor Mayo Eslay.

The municipal council, in Resolution 2018-90 noted, “This project contributed to the development of the community of Kapangan not only by giving the opportunity to experience the comfort of having electricity but also to fully use the potentials of electricity in relation to entrepreneurial endeavors.”

To intensify the electrification program, the Beneco board has adopted a resolution seeking a calamity assistance subsidy from the National Electrification Administration amounting to P3,142,134.48.

Beneco took the queue from NEA Circular 2016-01-0001 known as the “Adoption of energy resiliency in the planning and programming of the energy sector to mitigate the impacts of disaster.”

In seeking the subsidy, the board of directors noted that the cooperative incurred several damage in its distribution network, amounting to the cost being sought from NEA.

The major damage included 11 poles, 11 distribution transformers, and 119 units protection facilities, according to Engr. Melchor Licoben, Network Services Department manager.

The damage was caused by typhoons Inday and Josie and the monsoon rains that occurred on July 21 to 27.
