COMELEC reminds all bets to file SOCE
by Ofelia C. Empian

Whether they won or lost, the Commission on Elections reminds all candidates to file their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (Soce) by June 13.

Comelec Benguet Elections Supervisor Nicasio Jacob said those who ran for elective positions should file their Soce, especially those who won, as a requirement before taking their oath of office.

Dapat mag-submit na ang mga nanalo at natalo ng kanilang Soce as early as now,” Jacob said.

Comelec reminded that the Soce should adhere to the prescribed format and should have a soft and hard copies.

Kung nagkamali lang sila ng pag-submit, ‘di sila makakaupo. Kung hindi ito tanggapin kapag nag-submit sila sa June 12, they would not have the time to revise it,” Jacob said.

He said Comelec offices will be open to receive the candidate’s Soce on June 12, a holiday.

Under the Omnibus Election Code, a candidate who won during national and local elections may not assume office until a Soce is submitted.

“Every candidate and treasurer of the political party shall, within 30 days after the day of the election, file in duplicate with the offices of the commission the full, true, and itemized Soce in connection with the election. No person elected to any public office shall enter upon the duties of his office until he has filed the Soce herein required,” the law stated.

Meanwhile, Jacob said elections in Baguio and Benguet were generally peaceful.

He said eight cases of defective vote counting machines and SD cards in Baguio and 20 cases in Benguet were promptly solved, which allowed for the proclamation of winners in most towns within a day after the elections.
