Firm offers to put up crematorium in LT
by Jimmy Laking

A Baguio-based company engaged in the operation of memorial parks has offered to install a crematorium at the firm’s existing Pyramid Memorial Park in Barangay Wangal, La Trinidad.

In a letter to the municipal council chaired by vice mayor Samuel Esguerra, Tom Panis, vice president of ALPA-PCM, INC., said the proposed plant features “the latest and most advanced non-polluting machine” that would be used in a crematorium.

The company attached to a letter a permit issued for the operation of a crematorium by the Department of Health and a copy of a certificate of non-coverage from the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System issued by the Environmental Management Bureau.

The company has also proposed a similar project for its memorial park in Barangay Kias, Baguio City.

The company said that the continuing problem of depleting land areas due to rapid development of residential and commercial areas as well as the uncontrolled rise in demand for cemetery lots, cremation comes as a primary solution to burial land space problem.

“Through this system, the need for land space for the traditional burial is reduced into a tenth of its original size,” the letter reads.

“Bodies in caskets buried individually may take much room, combined with other burials it can, over time, cause serious space concerns,” the letter reads further.

Municipal councilor Francis Lee said the municipal council is studying the advantage of putting up a crematorium but has yet to schedule for deliberation.

“It obviously is an interesting setup,” he said.

The proposed crematorium will consist of a two-flame injector, a two-blower, a primary and secondary chamber, a settling chamber, and a stack. The process is designed to use fuel and electricity.
