Bangued satellite market now open
by Maritess Benas / PIA

BANGUED, Abra – A new satellite market or “talipapa” was established last July 15 at the heart of the provincial capital town at the back of the Bangued municipal building. There is now a satellite market or “talipapa” in the heart of the provincial capital town.

There are 28 stalls available for occupancy at the talipapa. Mayor Dominic Valera said that the occupants are not being charged for their rent during their first month of operation because the local government unit is still trying to determine the capability of the vendors to pay their rents based on their volume of sales.

The establishment of the talipapa is aimed to support the national government’s effort to support the economic recovery plan which is already in progress. The satellite market is well-equipped with the basic utilities and facilities such as light and water, proper ventilation, comfort rooms and drainage system to maintain sanitation and public health and safety.

According to market supervisor David Bernal Jr., it will take a year before the wet market will finally open for operation due to numerous requirements which include the sanitary permit. The stall holders are required to clean their own premises even if there are alreadu garbage collectors from the LGU.

With the new talipapa, the mayor declared that selling of vegetables, fish and meat in the streets is now prohibited.  Aside from the reason that selling along the streets is an eyesore, it is also not safe for the buyers as the commodities would only cause bad odor and attract flies and other insects that would spread diseases.
