Dads approve revised Baguio Tourism Code

The city council approved on final reading the Revised Tourism Code of the city last Monday.

The code authored by councilors Perlita Rondez, Antonio Tabora Jr., Richard Cariño and Erdolfo Balajadia, provides rules and regulations to ensure the efficient and effective operation and maintenance of all tourism-oriented and tourism-related establishments. This ordinance governs and regulates tourism development and promotion programs in the city including the licensing, registration, regulation and supervision of the operations of tourism-oriented and tourism-related establishments and will apply to all, private and government owned and controlled entities such as resorts, hotels, lodging facilities, travel agencies, tourist guides, transport groups and organizations.

 Permits and Licensing Office and the Baguio Tourism Council shall perform technical and administrative duties and functions under the measure. The City Council Committee on Tourism and Special Events shall perform oversight functions.

The measure states the  requirements for the operation and maintenance of tourism establishments particularly the classification and requirements for operation of resorts, hotels, apartment-hotels or apartels, tourist inns, pension houses, lodging houses, retreat houses, homestays and government lodging facilities or dormitories or camp sites which includes  travel agencies, travel operators, travel and tour consultants, tourist land transportation vehicles and drivers.Guidelines were also provided for the classification and operation of restaurants, fastfoods, carinderia and catering services, tourist shops or department stores and shopping malls, cocktail lounges or night clubs, beer gardens,disco clubs and karaoke bars.

The city will create the Baguio Tourism Council which will be an independent incorporated foundation, non-stock, non-political and non-sectarian, composed of unlimited members. The Board of Directors will not be more than 15 in accordance with the Corporation Code and shall be more specified in its incorporation charter.
