Kalinga BIR office ups tax collection
by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga – The Kalinga Revenue District Office (RDO) posted an improved tax collection performance of P90,610, 589.32 from  January to June this year, compared to the P83,290, 889.58  for  the same period last year.

RDO Condrado Tangkia attributed the increase in re-venue collection this year to more aggressive tax efforts carried out by the district.

From the RDO’s first 6-month report this year, VAT collections went up to P35,707,875.79 from last year’s P22,426, 755.44 posting an increase of 59 percent.

Although income taxes account for the highest amount with P47,623,132.43, the figure is lower than last year’s P56,068, 826.19 because of the increase in tax exemptions under RA 9504, Tangkia said.

Percentage tax with a collection of P5,073,513.34 went up by 78 percent this year compared to the P2,843,830.72 in the same period in 2008.

Excise taxes also reflected good collection for the same period of P42,586 compared to the P33,556 figure last year.

The rest of the tax sources falling under the category of others in the report, also improved to P2,163, 481.76 from P1,917, 921.23 for the same period.

But even with the improved tax collection performance for the first six months of 2009, Tangkia admits the district is still short by P908,410.68 of its goal of P91,519,000 for the period.

He appealed to tax payers in the province to help in the tax campaign of government by paying the right obligation even without getting issued notices from the office.

“Tax is the blood of government, delivered back to people through programs and services and so I urge our province mates to help the government in this part of the nation by paying the right amount of tax,” Tangkia said.
