BANGUED, Abra – Over 1,000 farmers and fisherfolk attended the recent Farmers’ Day celebration in the province.
The activity served as a venue for the farmers and fisherfolk to interact with local government and Department of Agriculture officials.
The farmers asked for the construction of a slope protection wall for eroded soil in the riverside of Pidigan; establishment of small-scale irrigation system for un-irrigated garlic and ginger farms in Dang-las and other towns; provision of concrete footings in muddy farms and paddocks; and provision of water control system to limit excessive spring water flow in Abang, Bucay, among other concerns.
DA Regional Director Lorenzo Caranguian advised the farmers to start envisioning a successful profession through determination and confidence.
In support to the farmers, the DA gave a P900,000 worth tractor to Dolores under the DA Rice Banner Program, and a P2-million worth tractor to the provincial government.
Gov. Jocelyn Bernos assured the farmers they will visit farms which were not included in the province’s ir Biyaheng Bukid program.
