Summit on MSMEs, SSF set on Nov 7–8
by Art Tibaldo

The Department of Trade and Industry-CAR is holding a summit on shared services facilities (SSF) and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on Nov. 7 and 8 in Baguio City.

DTI Regional Director Myrna Pablo said the event at Hotel Supreme will be a big push for the SME Program, which aims to increase competence and competitiveness of MSMEs in the region.

Pablo said that the summit intends to place Cordillera’s MSMEs at the forefront of the ASEAN Economic Community’s priority of “inclusive, innovation-led growth” agenda, aside from serving as a platform for sharing best practices among successful entrepreneurs in the country.

On Nov. 7, the MSME Development Summit will start at 9 a.m. with Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan and DTI Usec. Zenaida C. Maglaya, the guest of honor and speaker.

The morning session includes a forum on “Promoting MSMEs for ASEAN Prosperity,” which will have Baguio Rep. Marques Go and brand specialist and designer Brian Tenorio as speakers.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on the “7Ms towards Prosperity in ASEAN” with Atty. Alexander Bangsoy and Engr. Mark Joseph Lacambra. A press conference with Maglaya and other officials is set at noon.

The afternoon session will tackle “Mastery and Mentoring toward Competitiveness and Resilience and Accessing Domestic-Regional Markets and Overcoming Money Hurdles” with speakers Restina Morados, Dr. Roberto Kalugdan, Gladys V. De Vera, Ma. Elena Gomez, Regina Madio, and Dr. Virgilio C. Bautista.

Other topics to be discussed by experts are “Machines and Proactive Business Models toward Productive  and Responsive  MSMEs” by Sam Christopher Lim of the ASEAN, Philippine Franchise Association, and Edmark H. Bustos of Amare, La Cusina.

The first-day session will end with the “Way Forward for ASEAN MSME Development” by Director Jerry T. Clavesillas of the DTI Bureau of MSME Development with the closing message of Juan dela Cruz, Regional Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council vice chairperson.

The SSF summit on Nov. 8 expects more participation from the cooperators in the region as they will discuss national and regional performance with DTI officials led by Regional Operations Group Assistant Secretary Blesila Lantayona who will also deliver the inspirational message.

A video presentation of nominees of performing SSF projects in the region, awarding of best SSF projects in CAR including logos and taglines will highlight the morning session.

The afternoon session will be devoted to testimonials and presentation of guidelines of the transfer of SSF to eligible cooperators and culminates with recognition of CAR SSF RTWG, speakers and special guests.
