Consumer Month to be launched on Oct 3

Department of Trade and Industry in the region in partnership with the Consumer Net-CAR will launch this year’s Consumer Welfare Month celebration on Oct. 3.

The opening program starts at 9:30 a.m. with Usec. Teodoro C. Pascua of the DTI Consumer Protection Group and Asec. Allan S. Cabanlong of the Cybersecurity and Enabling Technology-Department of Information and Communications Technology as guests.

With the celebration theme of “Consumer rights in the digital age,” topics for the forum in the afternoon will focus on consumer rights in the digital age.

Cabanlong  will tackle cybersecurity and data privacy; text scams and spams, procedure for filing complaints by the National Telecommunications Commission; communicating through social media by Globe Telecommunications; Digital Trends – what each would mean to the consumer by Smart Communications; basic guide to telecommunication services (usages and promotions) and private sector  corporate social responsibility by PLDT, Globe and Smart.

Other activities include a nationwide simultaneous fun run today, Oct. 1 to espouse consumer-related concerns such as consumer education on green consumerism, consumer rights and responsibilities, and other issues presently besetting consumers.

The fun run (3K, 5K, and 10K categories) will start at 5:30 a.m. from Burnham Lake to Military CutOff, South Drive, and back. No registration fee will be collected. There will be singlets for first 400 finishers. 

Other  activities for the month-long celebration  include  role playing competition for senior high school students, which aim to heighten consumer awareness among the youth dubbed, “Dulaang Pangmamimili” will be conducted on Oct. 27;  a quiz bee for junior high school students to be held at the provincial and regional level, consumer forums in the provinces, and media exposure.

Awarding and closing program of the 2017 CWM will be on Oct. 27 at the City Light Hotel.
