8 Kalinga MSMEs go through quality check
by PIA-Kalinga

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The quality and safety of the products of eight micro, small, and  medium enterprises (MSMEs) underwent validation under the Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) Program of the Department of Science and Technology to ensure that these are competitive in terms of price and quality for export and local markets.

Two consultants from Technology Plus Product and Services Consultancy Company deployed by DOST visited MSMEs undertaking productivity consultancy services namely  Istaychi Wine Making, Kinwa Etnica, Amano Furniture Shop, Ebas Food Products, Ej-Ed Highland Flavors, Mt. Zion Bakery, Elju’s Food Products, and Rlyn’s Food Products.

“We have to ensure that consumers buy quality products, get the right prices, and that food products are safe for consumption,” DOST-Kalinga Head Jasmin Donaal said.

Part of the consultancy services that were validated included product quality of manufacturing firms and compliance of the food processors to Food and Drug Administration rules and regulations and other regulatory institutions.

Owners of these establishments were also coached on strategies to increase their sales.

The MPEX Program aims to identify strategies to improve the productivity of MSMEs, recommend productivity improvement measures for immediate implementation, develop capability to provide other forms of assistance to improve the manufacturing sector, and provide a venue for the entry of other DOST programs and projects particularly technology transfer activities.
