Firm plans to provide city w/ high–tech CCTV cameras
by Harley Palangchao

A company that provided Camp Crame, Pasay City, and other key areas in the country with a command center similar to the United States’ 911 unit is offering its service to Baguio City in line with the peacekeeping efforts of the local police.

The command center being planned to be set up at the Baguio City Police Office is equipped with wired and wireless 24/7 state-of-the-art surveillance cameras that can rotate, pan, and zoom in and out by as much as 300 meters giving authorities the exact site where assistance is needed.

Any Maribao, business consultant of technology provider BlueMedia, said the wireless closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras can do the function which was projected in the movie “Black Hawk Down”  particularly the segment where pilots of Black Hawk choppers were being directed by the command center where to extract members of the Delta Team in Mogadishu, Somali.

Maribao said that six CCTV cameras were actually set up a day before the visit of President Gloria Arroyo in Baguio last Aug. 29 and the command center was set up at City Hall with city mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. witnessing how the technology worked.

The temporary command center remained at City Hall and it was inspected by members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) who also actually monitored through CCTV camera the arrival of the presidential convoy from the central business district up to City Hall.

Maribao said that the PSG men can actually respond assuming they observed suspicious activity along the route of the presidential convoy. He added the technology greatly helped in the peace and order campaign of Taguig City, Lipa in Batangas, and San Juan in Manila.

Study conducted in areas equipped with such technology showed that it can help policemen or rescuers respond to the site within three minutes, thus, they can save more lives.he project is also among the pre-approved projects by the Development Bank of the Philippines, according to Maribao, who is expected to conduct demonstration before members of the city council on Sept. 7. He said BlueMedia is willing to offer its services on experimental basis.
