Theft and robbery cases no longer happen only at night, criminals commit these acts anytime an opportunity arises.
Personnel of police station 3 arrested Jayaed Jay Mateo Lim, 18 years old native of Banaue, Ifugao at about 1:15 p.m. of July 22 along Upper Engineer’s Hill after he, together with two others who escaped, attempted to rob the vehicle of Benjie Cefra Caido of Loakan Road.
A case for attempted theft and malicious mischief was filed against the arrested suspect and the two others whose names the police withheld.
According to city police operations head Supt. Dave Mariano, the suspect and his cohorts broke the glass of the parked car but the owner noticed it. The police warned the public to always be cautious and protect their properties.
The officer said that bukas kotse cases normally happen at night.
In all the cases, he said, the suspects are able to cart away valuables. “Everyone should protect themselves and their properties.
If they park their cars especially along the streets, they should not leave valuables because it is tempting to people who even if they were not thinking of robbing the vehicle but sees something with value, will be tempted to do it.”
Mariano added the public should always practice security measures. “If they protect themselves, they are already helping the police,” he said.
He said the police are not around every minute to protect every individual’s belongings.
“Helping the police does not mean the public should go out and catch criminals because by merely protecting themselves, they are s already helping the police,” he said.
Mariano also said that barangays should intensify their police auxillaries like the active barangays because not in all areas can there be police all the time. “Nakakatulong ang mga barangay tanod kapag nagrorondda sila dahil napipigilan din ang mga krimen na maganap,” he said.
