The next director of the Baguio City Police Office will be known before the end of the month with five senior police officers who are graduates of the Philippine Military Academy and Philippine National Police Academy listed as nominees.
This after Mayor Mauricio Domogan created a committee to evaluate the qualifications of the five applicants.
The applicants are S/Supt. Joseph Adnol, member of PNPA Class 1985 and current chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of the Cordillera PNP; S/Supt. Virgilio Laya, of PNPA Class 1987 and current head of Public Community Relations of Cordillera PNP; and S/Supt. Jesus Cambay Jr. of PMA Class 1988 and current chief of the Regional Comptroller Division of Region 6.
The two other nominees are S/Supt. Marlon Madrid of PMA Class 1990 and also chief of R6 of Cordillera PNP and S/Supt. Angelito Casimiro, of PMA Class 1988 and chief of the Logistics Division of Cordillera PNP.
Domogan, who chairs the screening committee, said the body was created to ensure that the selection for the position of BCPO director is in accordance with the principle of merit and fitness that will eventually facilitate the attainment of the mission and vision of the city.
The screening committee members will convene anytime soon to evaluate the documents of the nominees.
But the city executive still has the authority to select a police director even without a local screening committee.
Domogan on Wednesday said they requested the candidates to send in their respective personal information file to aid the city in the evaluation and selection.
“We have to consider the merits of each applicant. In that way, we can choose who will best serve as city director,” Domogan said. The list was furnished to the city by the PNP Central Office, which recommended the five candidates. It was also affirmed by PRO-Cor led by Director Benjamin Magalong.
The next BCPO director will replace erstwhile director David Lacdan.
S/Supt. Roberto Soriano was recently assigned as BCPO officer-in-charge but he has to be reassigned anew at Camp Dangwa after the PNP general headquarters appointed him as the deputy regional director for administration in preparation for his promotion to one-star police general.
