Brgy workers exempted from fees
by Aileen P. Refuerzo / PIO

Some barangay workers in the city are now exempted from paying the fees required for the issuance of various permits and clearances from government offices.

This is by virtue of Ordinance 44, s. 2017 approved on third reading by the city council last Monday which frees barangay health workers (BHW), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), barangay nutrition action officers (BNAO), and barangay human rights action officers (BHRAO) from the obligation of paying fees for securing police, medical and mayor’s clearances for official or personal purposes.

Authored by Councilor Joel Alangsab, the measure amended Ordinance 17, s. 1993 which grants the same exemption to all barangay officials, Sangguniang  Kabataan officials (chairman, seven members, secretary and treasurer), and members of the barangay tanod, the Integrated Barangay Tanod (IBT), the lupong tagapamayapa, and other barangay brigades.

This is in recognition of the services rendered voluntarily by these barangay workers.

“The BHWs, BNSs, BNAOs, and BHRAOs have rendered their voluntary service to the City Government of Baguio and continue to support the programs, projects, and activities of barangays and their noble dedication and hard work in nation building and their cooperation to the city’s projects is beyond comprehension that deserves recognition,” the ordinance noted.
