Foreign student dies after being hit by city cab driver

A foreign nursing student in Baguio died while being rushed to the hospital after a taxi driven by a 67-year-old in the afternoon of May 9 hit her.

Report from the Baguio City Police Office identified the victim as Oreoluwa Tope Oyinloye from Nigeria, who was bumped by a taxi while walking along Lower Magsaysay.

The 29-year old victim is a student of AMA College and a resident of Aurora Hill.

The driver was identified as Julio Goloyogo Balangue, 67 years old from Quirino Hill.

According to the police report, the driver was coming from En Clean Gasoline station and while descending bumped Oyinloye.

After the impact, Balangue accelerated and sped towards Lower Magsaysay Avenue leaving the victim sprawled on the road pavement.

In a string of unfortunate events, while at the junction of Lower Magsaysay and Buhagan Road, Balangue also hit the rear portion of a taxi ahead of him.

Both vehicles incurred damage in the collision.

Oyinloye was was brought by Lower Magsaysay Punong Barangay Debbie Sadot to Pines Doctor’s Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Based on the posts of the victim’s friends in social media, the foreigner will be buried at the Baguio Cemetery.

Meanwhile on May 8, a woman who is four months pregnant was hit by a private vehicle along Saint Joseph Road, Pacdal, Baguio City.

Ma. Melanie Antonio, 31 years old was crossing the road when she was hit by a vehicle driven by Edna Vinluan, 57-years old who was coming from Leonard Wood Road. 

The victim sustained injuries on her left foot and was brought by Vinluan at SLU-Hospital.

In the same date in Ifugao, a tricycle collided with a motorcycle leaving the victims injured.

Initial investigation disclosed that the tricycle driven by John Michael Mercado, 21 years old, collided with the motorcycle of Christopher Toledo, 29 years old along the national road at Hapid intersection, Poblacion East, Lamut, Ifugao.

Due to the impact, Toledo sustained injuries on his left hand  while Mercado was unhurt.

Responding personnel of Lamut Municipal Police Station brought Toledo to the Panopdopan District Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles incurred minimal damage and were brought to Lamut MPS for safekeeping.
