Elders may now apply for SCOFAD
by Julie G. Fianza with reports from the CSWDO

Elders who want to serve as public officials through the Senior Citizens Official for-a-Day (Scofad) may now secure and submit their application forms to the City Social Welfare and Development Office. (CSWDO).

The deadline for submission of application forms and supporting documents is on Sept. 14, 5 p.m., at the CSWDO.

Office of Senior Citizen Affairs Head Isaias Barongan said 58 executive, legislative, and regional line agency positions is open for application and will be taken over by the senior citizens on Oct. 1.

The screening committee will look into the applicant’s education, job history, personal quality and character traits, achievements and accomplishments, and community involvement and service. The applicant should have received at least five awards.

An applicant must be a Baguio resident for at least three years and member of a senior citizen organization for three years. The organization must be accredited by the CSWDO or the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

A senior citizen who previously assumed as a congressman, mayor, and vice-mayor for-a-day could no longer apply for a lower position.

For the positions of councilor, department head, or line agency regional director, only two terms are allowed.

The Scofad is part of the celebration of Elderly Month in October.
