Dad welcomes new CCPC
by Gaby B. Keith / PIO

Councilor Lilia Fariñas thanked Mayor Benjamin Magalong for issuing Executive Order 139, s. 2019 that reconstituted the City Council for the Protection of Children (CCPC) in Baguio.

The order cites Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children against Child Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination; Presidential Decree 603 or the Children and Youth Welfare Code; Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act; and Articles 359 and 360 of the Civil Code calling for the establishment of councils for the protection of children.

“All these laws have been created to protect our children and the youth. That is how valuable they are to our nation,” Fariñas said.

She added that as parents and guardians of the country’s future, “it is our solemn duty to uphold what these laws provide.”

She said that several networks and coalitions working for the promotion of children’s rights and welfare are organized under the EO like the Anti-Child Abuse Network that protects children who are victims and survivors of abuse, Juvenile Justice Network that caters to children in conflict with law, and Coalition of Agencies working for Street Urban Working Children.

Fariñas said these groups are also members of the CCPC that is composed of four committees:  survival, development, protection, and participation.

The reconstituted CCPC designates Magalong as chair with Fariñas and Claire Gina Henderson, executive director of Helping Hands and Healing Hearts Ministries, as co-chairpersons.
