Punong brgys asked to prepare for longer battle vs COVID-19
by Aileen P. Refuerzo / PIO

Mayor Benjamin Magalong asked barangay captains in the city to prepare as the battle against Covid-19 could run for a while longer yet.

Magalong said the country stands to receive vaccine allocation at the latter part of 2021 based on the World Health Organization vaccine allocation plan for second and third world countries.

“The Covid-19 vaccine is still a long way. It’s more than a year more before we can go back to normal so we have to condition our minds that we are in for a long-term and enduring battle,” the mayor told the barangay captains during their monthly meeting held Oct. 14.

To get through it, he said leaders need to continue levelling up and to do more innovations.

He said the Covid-19 fight in the city has shifted to the households as seen in the current statistics.

This means that the city’s strategies should now target families and neighborhoods to engender a behavioral change in such a way that minimum health standards against the disease becomes part of their way of life.

He asked the barangay officials to take the lead in implementing the new programs in their areas of jurisdiction which include information education communication campaign, conduct of dialogues and Covid-19 information dissemination in barangay areas that have the potential to become a flashpoint or hotspot, and the incentivization of barangays that are complying with the health measures.

The programs will be implemented in coordination with city government offices including the Special Services Division and the City Health Services Offices.
