City has enough funds for calamity
by Hanna C. Lacsamana

The City Social Welfare and Development Office has assured the city government is ready to assist families that may be affected by calamities with the onset of the rain season.

CSWD Officer Betty Fangasan said the city still has enough funds for food packs for distribution to families in barangays that would be needing assistance due to the effects of floods or accidents caused by typhoons in the coming months.

“We have to ensure we have stockpile of relief goods. This year, we can still afford to provide for the needs of our constituents during emergency situations caused by calamities,” Fangasan said during a press briefing Sept. 16.

She said the calamity fund of the city amounting to P2 million remains intact in spite of the expenditures incurred in the city’s Covid-19 pandemic response, management, and prevention.

Fangasan added the CSWDO continues releasing food packs, which it has been doing in response to the series of lockdowns and community quarantine since March.

Through its family life resource centers, she said they give food assistance and other social services to families of Covid-19 patients who are on quarantine or confined in health facilities.

Fangasan said the CSWDO has supplies left from the funds received by the city from the Bayanihan Act 1 implementation and is able to provide the same assistance to locked down areas due to the presence of Covid-19 cases and for the conduct of contact tracing, especially barangays that are often or continuously subjected to lockdown.
