A socio-civic organization helped the city government of Baguio in distributing National Food Authority (NFA) government-subsidized rice to city residents in time for the 110th Independence Day last June 12.
The Kappa Rho Upsilon Sigma or KRUS headed by its current president Bong Reyes and other members of the organization helped in the distribution of NFA rice to dozens of residents at the Baguio Convention Center.
KRUS, which was involved in countless socio-civic programs aimed at helping the people, was started by its four founding fathers namely Joseph Pastor, William Arce, Charles Villanueva, and Abner Barnuevo.
Elements of the 106th Community Defense Center headed by Col. Nick Alarcio also helped in the distribution of NFA rice.
The distribution of NFA rice is becoming one of the main projects of socio-civic groups in Baguio.
Recently, the Korean community in Baguio was reported to have also distributed NFA rice to residents at a cheaper price than the prevailing P18.25 a kilo.
Last Friday, a NFA rolling store was seen distributing rice to residents of City Camp and its environs with dozens of residents lining up to buy.
NFA officials recently vowed that the agency is making sure that the government-subsidized rice is distributed to supposed depressed areas in the locality.
The rice consumption requirements for Baguio and Benguet on a monthly basis are 166,000 bags. NFA rice is being sold at P18.25 a kilo compared to more or less P35 a kilo for other commercial rice varieties. |
