With barely two weeks before the awards night, nominations for the top journalists of the year 2007 are on.
“We are now accepting nominations,” said Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club Inc. president Pigeon Lobien as the search for the top local journalists from the three fields commences.
Lobien said that nomination forms will be given to editors/publishers and station managers for the 17 awardees, whose works have contributed or have made a significant mark to the industry and will be honored in the Oscar-like awards on June 28.
Awards committee chairperson Marlon Marvil said that there will be eight categories in the print division, namely: best news story, best feature, best sports story, best photo, best column, best editorial, best editorial cartoon, and best headline writing.
In the radio division, it will be: best field reportage, best news commentary, best news program, and best public service program.
The television division has five categories, namely: best field reportage, best news commentary, best magazine program, best news program, and best public service program.
Nominations must be accomplished with the name of the author and the title of the articles or materials and sent to either Lobien, care of the Philippine Information Agency or to director Ramon Dacawi at the Public Information Office, City Hall, Baguio City. Deadline for submission of nominations is on June 20. At least five materials will be accepted in the print division and which samples will be attached with the nomination forms.
The media awards night is an annual search for the top local journalists for the past year. It was started during the term of past president Robert Tabay in 2005 but failed to see staging last year.
This year, it will be made in four days with the media festival and conferences during the first four days leading to the awards night on the 28th.
Lectures will be on key areas of interest including sports, business, and newspapering. There will also be a photojournalism seminar during the four-day event sponsored by Smart and SM City.
The conferences are also open to students. |
