TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Farmer associations and organizations of the province received water pumps and farm implements under the El Niño Mitigation Program of the Department of Agriculture.

The distribution of the implements are just in time for the next cropping season, according to newly appointed Regional Executive Director of Cordillera, Narciso Edillo.

Edillo, assisted by Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Bakilan and corn coordinator Gerardo Banawa handed over to corn farmers of Kalinga, water pumps that were procured as part of the farm assistance program from the national government.

“I hope these machineries will help you recover from your missed cropping,” said Edillo to farmer Anastacio Tibangwa of Rizal.

Municipal agriculturists and farmer leaders from the different municipalities will assist the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in completing the distribution of the equipment and farm implements.

In other areas, El Niño mitigation programs include irrigation system diversion, cloud seeding, construction of shallow tube wells, subsidy for the use of saline-tolerant rice or corn varieties.
