The Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other featured stakeholders held a six-day information and photo exhibit starting on June 19 at SM Baguio as part of the celebration of environment month.
The exhibit, with its theme, “Understanding and responding to climate change” featured the effort of the DENR and stakeholders like the local government unit, international communities such as USAID, non-government organizations, and business and industries in response to climate change.
The event aimed to create awareness and inspire people to act on environmental issues like global warming.
Susan Nool, DENR information officer, said that climate change is a pressing issue that people should be aware of and take action on. “Global warming is a reality and we need more aggressive response for this environmental issue,” she said.
The exhibit also showed what people can do to prevent global warming.
They listed 36 things to do: Turn food into fuel; get blueprints for a green house; change your light bulbs; light up your city; collect the carbon tax; pitch the mansion; hang up a clothesline; give a new life to your old fleece jackets; take another look at vintage clothes;
Ride the mass transit or walk; open a window; check the label; cozy up to your water heater; skip the steak; copy California; just say no to plastic bags; support your local farmer; plant a bamboo fence; tax break when government goes green; have a green wedding; remove the tie; shut off your computer; kill the lights at quitting time; end the paper chase;
Think outside the packaging; make your garden grow; stop driving alone; develop a green house; make biofuel from nonfood crops; check your tires; make one right turn after another; plant a tree in the tropics; if you must burn coal do it right; and consume less, share more, and live simply. |
