IN DAYS OF Yore, “Nobility” was the in-thing. The dukes and the duchess; the kings and the queens, the emperors and the empresses – as well as their families respective; most often than not, they were the “automatic” Wielders of Nobility – then, the closest synonym of Power, Dominance, and Influence.

AND IF YOU were not an “automatic” Wielder, was Power and-related-attributes (Supra) an almost Impossible Dream, in those times . . yet?

ANSWER AS YOU  know is NO! For the Esquire could be a Baron; a Baron could become a Viscount; a Viscount, a Duke? A Duke, a King and so on. Even a slave whose worth as a person – or whose nobility “former” – was reduced to zero or cipher, ‘earned’ his freedom by one or several deeds, and so the rights and privileges appertainant to his ‘new’ freedom was suddenly earned or “won”! or else, “regained” if, originally, a “noble” before his Slavery.

HIS CASE, IN simple Parlance is: from no-thing to some-thing Q.E.F. from ‘non-nobility’ (or zero-vibernobility) to ‘nobility’ i.e. via viable or tenable freedom! And so on and on.

BUT ON JULY 14, 1789, something happened very important: the Storming of the Bastille – one former official home of the ruling [French] nobles . . . and Nobility itself – or the ‘concepts’ attached to it, ‘fell’!

EVEN THE PHILOSOPHERS were ‘affected’: the ‘Divine Right’ after all did not belong to the Kings, rulers, and Emperors . . .but to the vulgus or masses, themselves?

“NEO” ADVOCATES WERE enthusiastic to proclaim to the World a new-Maxim which was perceived to be for all “levels” of the then existing Society, and the said Maxim summarized in three or four words: Liberté, Fraternité, et Egalité (Freedom, Brotherhood, and Equality).

A FOURTH ONE: Équité (Fairness) is not as often said but often meant and, sought! So, it is not only this time that ‘everybody’ wants to be treated ‘fairly’: good, old everybody often did ask for it before, and in most cases, it was given; it was granted; to many nobles: it was institutionally bestowed.

AND SO ON? Which means: the rest is ‘History’. In the name of EELF (Équité, Egalité, Liberté, and Fraternité), wars were fought – lost, and/or won? And the Hope always lingered, for all who had the time to linger and hope: finalement, man or humankind itself, shall learn? No more elitismus, no more ‘superiority’, no more ‘dominance’, and the like; rather, “let us” have Equity, Equality, and so on.

TO SOME EXTENT, the ‘Hope’ aforesaid fructified, witness e.g. Gender egalité, ‘Standardization of Wages, ‘Across-the-Board increase’, ‘WANTED male or female (may apply), ‘uni-sex’, etc., all those terms of current Practice and Application, how can we contest these successes?

BUT SO, THERE is ‘no more’ instance, or semblance of Elitism, Exclusivity, Priority, Privilege, ‘[‘inherited’ or ‘bestowed’] Authority?

I was in Error; so let me re-state: Équité, Egalité, and so on; why, I see them all seem to be in the ‘direction of the dogs”? That is to say: the likes of EELF, they’re gone; or, they’re into being ‘dog gone’. Sooner or later a thing really “of the Past”! And . . . but behold that something new in place: the VIP ‘Syndrome’!
