Only the bleachers of the Baguio Athletic Bowl will be ready for the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet.
City District Engineer Alexander Castañeda clarified repair of the bleachers and installation of a rubberized track are separate projects, necessitating for the conduct of another round of bidding. He said a different contractor would have to undertake phase 2 of the Athletic Bowl rehabilitation project.
Mounds of earth have recently been dug and dumped around the dirt oval, presumably to lay the ground work for the installation of a rubber track, following the city council’s approval of the release of Baguio’s supplement budget.
Castañeda said the highly-anticipated installation of a rubberized track will not be implemented even early next year because the project entails a lot of preparations.
Among these are organizing a detailed scope of work, computing the project duration, canvassing, among others before the DPWH publishes an invitation to bid.
Castañeda said personnel from BCDEO just inspected the rubberized oval at the Philippine Sports Commission so they could prepare specifications for the project.
Assuming a bidder has been chosen, Castañeda said the project could not commence right away because the Tartan Track has to be imported from Europe.
Upon its entry in the country, this will have to be cleared by the Bureau of Customs.
