450 wanted men fall; P100 M drugs seized
by Harley F. Palangchao

Close to 450 wanted persons, including top most wanted men, and more than P100 million worth of illegal drugs were seized during the first 100 days in office of C/Supt. Rolando Nana as regional director of the Cordillera police command.

Of the 450 wanted persons arrested, the Police Regional Office-Cordillera reported that 25 of them are top most wanted persons in the provincial, city, and municipal levels. Two of them, having a reward money of P90,000, were neutralized in police operations.

Four members of syndicated crime groups were also arrested, which the command claimed dealt a telling blow to the operations of these syndicated groups.

On illegal drugs, Nana reported that close to 450,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana aside from close to 110 kilos of marijuana bricks and 241 grams of shabu were seized by police and anti-narcotics operatives in sting operations.

Most of the marijuana eradications were conducted in the hinterlands of Tinglayan, Kalinga, records show.

The regional command also reported that it has lowered the total crime volume by 12 percent from June to August compared to the same period last year.

Index crimes, which refers to heinous crimes, was lowered by 22 percent from 389 cases from June to August 2017 to 304 cases during the same period this year while the index crime clearance efficiency reached 68.42 percent from the target of 20 percent.

The thrust of the Philippine National Police to strengthen police stations is also being realized in the Cordillera with four standard municipal police stations in the towns of Langiden, Abra; Calanasan, Apayao; Kibungan, Benguet and Lagawe, Ifugao, inaugurated recently.

Another seven municipal police stations worth close to P25 million are undergoing construction.

Strengthening of police auxiliary units in the region’s 1,176 barangays is also being sustained by the current PRO-Cor leadership with almost 180 seminars on barangay peacekeeping were conducted throughout the region.

At present, PRO-Cor has accounted a total of 21,021 barangay peacekeeping action teams with 2,850 trained supervisors in the region.

Other accomplishments include the arrest of 100 individuals for illegal gambling with 32 cases filed in court, while police also seized 58 suspects for illegal possession of 188 firearms.
