The local government of Pudtol, Apayao observed Rabies Awareness Month on March 28 through a dog walk and a seminar.
Provincial Health Officer Mary Ann Soriano-Canonizado facilitated the activity.
Veterinarians from the Department of Agriculture-CAR, Baguio City Veterinary Office, and the municipal and provincial veterinary office of Apayao participated in the seminar and also administered free anti-rabies vaccinations on 92 dogs.
Dr. Cecilia Capuyan of DA-CAR and Apayao Provincial Veterinarian Ralph Verzon discussed the guidelines on the prevention and control of canine rabies.
The Animal Welfare Act was presented by Marietta Blanco and the guidelines in the prevention and control of rabies in humans by Ronald Aguirre of the PHO.
Pudtol already passed its Anti-rabies and Responsible Pet Ownership Ordinance. However, it lacks implementation in the municipality and the province. Through these activities, they hope to increase the awareness regarding the ordinance.
Also, all municipalities in Apayao have their own Animal Bite Treatment Center.
Next year, Pudtol will be giving out certificates and monetary reward to the barangay with the best rabies and prevention control program.
