500 dogs get anti rabies shots
by PIA release

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Provincial Veterinary Office vaccinated 500 dogs as highlight of the World Rabies Day celebration last Sept. 28.

Godofredo Laed of the PVO said the center of the province’s vaccination this year was Barangay Cawagayan, Pinukpuk following the reported two cases of rabies in the area.

Under the PVO’s safety and prevention standard, the vaccination should cover the five-kilometer radius presumed infection area.

Dog owners were urged to voluntarily bring their pets to vaccination centers while barangay tanod were tapped to bring stray dogs to assure no dog is left unvaccinated.

Local government units in Kalinga have institutionalized the campaign against rabies.

According to rabiesalliance.org, World Rabies Day is the first and only global day of action and awareness for rabies prevention. The event focuses on rabies endemic countries to increase community awareness of the disease and its prevention. World Rabies Day also raises the profile of national and local control programs and acts as a springboard for year-round capacity building and awareness.

The World Health Organization, World Organisation for Animal Health, UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Global Alliance for Rabies agreed to work for the achievement of zero human deaths from canine rabies by 2030.
