Abra working on 2019 budget for nutrition
by PIA-Abra

The Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) and municipal nutrition committees (MNCs) of Abra are hoping for a lower malnutrition rate in the province in the coming years with proper nutrition action and budget.

Abra is one of the 36 provinces identified in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 in terms of efforts in uplifting the residents’ nutritional status. The other provinces in the Cordillera that were identified in the PPAN as priority areas are Ifugao and Mountain Province.

To capacitate the nutrition committees of Abra in identifying nutrition plans and actions that will be scaled up and the corresponding budget requirements, the National Nutrition Council-Cordillera recently held a two-day local nutrition workshop.

During the workshop, nutrition-specific programs, such as the infant and young child feeding and dietary supplementation program, Philippine Integra-ted Management of Acute Malnutrition program, nutrition in emergencies program, food fortification program, and nutrition promotion program were identified by the nutrition committees as priority programs to be included in their 2019 nutrition budget.

NNC-Cordillera Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Rita Papey assured that the proposed interventions will be included in the 2019 national nutrition budget even though the budget proposed by the PNC and the MNCs of Abra may go through several auditing processes.
