by PIA-Abra

BANGUED, Abra – With proper hygiene and good manufacturing practices of food business operators (FBOs), local food products will sustain market niches.

This was stressed during the training on current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) and food safety among food business handlers of the province conducted by the Food and Drug Administration-Cordillera through its Licensing Officer Saturnina O. Pandosen.

The training, which dealt with manufacturing and quality control procedures, aimed to ensure that the products of the FBOs are manufactured or packed following the standard quality appropriate for the intended use.

Pandosen said that good manufacturing practice is a key factor for the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to produce good quality, safe, and affordable food products.

She also stressed for MSMEs to apply and acquire FDA-issued license to operate to avoid penalty and cancellation of their business permit.

Pandosen also reminded the participants, composed of bakeshop and restaurant owners, coffee growers, and catering services managers, to always keep their production protected from contamination.

Department of Science and Technology Provincial Director Menandro Buenafe encouraged the FBOs to increase their productivity and competitiveness to for their businesses to grow.
