Culture of peace training slated
by Daniel B. Codamon / PIA

BANAUE, Ifugao – The Ifugao Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will hold a training on culture of peace from May 15 to 17 at the Halfway Lodge to support the provincial government’s bid to promote family solidarity among its constituents.

It is also seen to strengthen the network and enhance partnership with other agencies and peace-oriented people’s organizations.

Elena Otgalon of the PSWDO said the training will be attended by 35 participants composed of the Ifugao Paternal Federation Officers and selected members as well as partners and point persons from different agencies.

Otlagon said Ifugao has its share of reported abuses on children, women, and men.

These abuses often lead to dysfunctional families and children are often the victims when peace is not present and respect is no longer observed in the family.

Children who are raised in this environment carry with them the negative effects of a dysfunctional family or worse, they can become abusers when they grow up, Otlagon said.

The training, she said, will reinforce the experiences, wisdom, and the inherent conflict resolution abilities of the participants especially the fathers who are culturally regarded as the head of the family.

It will also help empower the participants to promote and institutionalize the culture of peace as a strategy in addressing violence in the home and in the society.

The traditional way of instilling values education is one of the practices Cordillerans are known for. Many local governments in the region have been awarded by national line agencies for their best practices.
