A series of anti-illegal drugs operations has led to the destruction of P2.8 million worth of marijuana last week.

On June 15 to 16, join police and anti-narcotics operatives set out efforts at the villages of Vicinity Ara, Tulgao West in Tinglayan, Kalinga where they discovered four planting sites, the fourth one stumbled upon accidentally.

Kalinga Police Provincial Office Officer-In-Charge Col. Davy Vicente Limmong said the composite team eradicated 14,000 fully grown marijuana.

On the first day, joint personnel of Drug Enforcement Unit, Tinglayan Municipal Police Station, Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Intelligence Unit, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Kalinga, and the 2nd Kalinga Provincial Force Mobile Command uprooted 4,500 fully grown marijuana worth P900,000.

The team proceeded to another site with an area of 500 square meters and burned away P1M worth of marijuana plants.

In the afternoon of June 15, the team landed on the third site where they uprooted 3,000 fully grown plants worth P600,000.

The following day and while the team were withdrawing from the operation sites, they stumbled upon another planting site where they uprooted 1,500 fully grown marijuana plants with an estimated value of P300,000.

Limmong said upon documenting and taking samples as evidence, the team burned the uprooted illegal plants on site.

Tinglayan has been the hotspot for marijuana cultivation in the Cordillera in recent years, according to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

PDEA said many drug dealers are posing as tourists, smuggling the drugs out of the province to various areas in the country.
