Police woman makes history in 2015 Miss Earth pageant
by Redjie M. Cawis / PIA

The Baguio girl who was noticed in last year’s Philippine National Police Academy graduation as “pretty police” is in the news again as the first police woman to join the Miss Earth pageant.

Filipino-Romanian Sophia Deliu of Loakan, Baguio City, is one of the candidates of the Miss Earth Philippines pageant 2015 representing Baguio City.

Deliu, who works as supply officer of the Regional Public Safety Battalion of the Police Regional Office 1, said by joining the pageant, she can help in the advocacy on environment protection.

“I believe that by joining the Miss Earth, this will create a big impact in the world of police and military, kasi ako ang unang lady officer na sumabak sa isang beauty pageant and this will be a great opportunity to reach the people as a police woman,” said Deliu. “As a woman and a police officer, I should be able to protect not only the people but also the environment,” she added.

Miss Earth candidates actively promote and are involved in the preservation of the environment. The winner of Miss Philippines-Earth will serve as ambassador of environmental protection campaigns in the country, and represent the Philippines to one of the biggest international beauty competitions, the Miss Earth pageant.

Police personnel as well as the PNPA are supportive of Deliu.

PNPA Alumni Association Chair of the Board, former C/Supt. Tomas Rentoy said they are proud of Deliu and  will support her in all aspects, even financially as some of her “mistah” and fellow officers have already pitched in cash to help her in the pageant.

Deliu, who traces her roots from Mountain Province, is a Tourism Management graduate of Saint Louis University. She was about to join the hospitality industry but decided to join the PNPA, instead.

Deliu worked as a ramp and print model in her teens and joined Miss Teen Philippines 2006 and Miss Baguio 2008.
