CELEBRATING ART --  Featured artists led by national artist for visual art Benedicto “Bencab” Cabrera (9th from l) were honored during the opening of the “My SM, My City, My Art” at SM City Baguio on Thursday. The artists are (from l) Ric Maniquis, Art Lozano, Kelly Ramos, Farah Manuel, Patric Palasi, Gilbert Gano Alberto, Jordan Mangosan, with SM SVP for Marketing and Communications Millie F. Eleven Baguio-based artists and their works took center stage during the second My City, My SM, My Art from May 4 to 8 at the SM City Baguio atrium, as part of the mall’s  campaign of bringing art closer to the community.

Dubbed “A celebration of Philippine visual arts,” the event pays tribute to masters, modernists, and millennials for their painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and filmmaking works in a road show in all SM malls. It advocates art for all by working with communities in mounting exhibits, workshops, and contests in key cities in the Philippines.

Featured for Baguio are homegrown artists led by national artist for visual art Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera, along with painter Jordan Mang-osan, sculptor Gilbert Alberto, coffee painter Patric Palasi, multi media artist Art Tibaldo, metal sculptor Bumbo Villanueva, fine arts instructor Farah Manuel, writer-painter Kelly Ramos, painter Art Lozano, painter Norman Chow, and photographer-musician Ric Maniquis, for sharing their crafts and continuing to make arts alive and thriving in Baguio and nearby towns and provinces.

Many of them are associated either with the Baguio Arts Guild and  the Arts Foundation of the Cordilleras, while the others are resident artists or are housing their works at the Tam-awan Village, Ili-likha Art’s Village, and the BenCab Museum.

Their masterpieces are displayed in the SM exhibit that also gave a glimpse of the hands and brains behind the art works, which mostly depict landscapes, culture, and faces of Cordillera using their respective mediums of expression and style.

SM Regional Operations Manager Marc Jansen Pe urged the public to continue supporting and promoting Philippine visual arts in the city.

My City, My SM, My Art is a campaign spearheaded by the SM Publicity Department under Senior Vice President for Marketing and Operations Millie Dizon, and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Shell Companies of the Philippines, and Philippine Star with support from the National Commission of Culture and the Arts, and Centerstage Productions.

It is the latest from My City, My SM campaign which aims to promote tourism. It includes My City, My SM, My Cuisine that highlights culinary specialties of host cities; and My City My SM, My Craft, a celebration of traditional arts and modern designs.
