"Aguinaldo" calls for Filipino patriotism
by Carlito C. Dar / PIA

The great grandson of the country’s first president urged modern-day Filipinos to show patriotism and unity.

Emilio Aguinaldo Suntay III, great grandson of general Emilio Aguinaldo, urged Filipinos to be inspired by the heroism and struggles of our ancestors and show patriotism and unity in this modern age.

Suntay, accompanied by Baguio City officials, led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Aguinaldo Shrine at Jungletown in celebration of the National Flag Day last week.

He said there are many stories of heroism, triumphs, and struggles that happened here in the North as the Filipinos were struggling against the Spanish occupation more than a hundred years ago.

“We should tell these stories to the younger generation so that they can be inspired and love our country more. It is the love of country that we can help each other and this will give justice to the sacrifices our ancestors,” he said.

“May it serve as an inspiration to all of us and the countless generations. Let us be reminded on what we can achieve as a country if we are united, responsible, selfless, patriotic, and if we are willing to put the country’s interest first in our lives,” Suntay said.

“Let us love our country first and let us honor our flag,” he added.

In line with the celebration, the public is encouraged to properly display the Philippine flag in all offices, schools, and institutions, both the public and private sector, until the Independence Day celebration on June 12.
