Search for outstanding senior citizens of Baguio now open
by Julie G. Fianza with reports from the CSWDO

Nomination is now open for this year’s search for outstanding senior citizens.

The Outstanding Senior Citizen Achiever’s Award (OSCAA) is part of the Elderly Month celebration in October.

Nomination forms are available at the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

The outstanding senior citizens’ award is in line with this year’s Elderly Month celebration theme, “Kilalanin at parangalan, tagapagsulong ng kaparatan ng nakatatanda tungo sa lipunang mapagka-linga.”

The awards are in four categories – community service, leadership, resource generation, and huwarang nakatatanda.

For the community service award, nominees must have rendered commendable service for the upliftment of most senior citizens at the barangay or city without receiving any wages or salary.

The nominee for the leadership award should have been a leader of a senior citizen’s association for three years and should have an achievement award for the plans accomplished for his/her group.

For the resource generation award, projects for the development and enhancement of senior citizens and community should have been funded through the leadership of the nominee, with no other motive than to help senior citizens.

The huwarang nakatatanda nominee should be a consistent supporter of senior citizen programs and services, but should not be multi-awarded or well-known. He should have accomplished or initiated projects for senior citizens without expecting any reward and not be nominated by family or relatives but by the organization or groups they have served.

Nominees should be 60 years old and above, a Baguio resident for 10 years, and a member of any Baguio City-based senior citizen association.

The nominees will be screened based on educational data, job history, personal qualities and character traits, achievement/accomplishments, community involvement and service, and awards received.

Supporting documents should be submitted with an endorsement by the president of the senior citizen organization where they belong.

The nominee information sheet, with a letter of endorsement from the association where nominee is affiliated must be submitted to the CSWDO by 5 p.m. of Sept. 14.

Self-nomination is not accepted and there should only be one nominee in a family.

A plaque of recognition and P1,000 will be given to the awardees. The day and venue of the awards will be announced at a later date.
