Improving the Ibaloy Heritage Garden
PERCIVAL B. ALIPIT, Baguio City

One could readily notice that the Ibaloy Heritage Garden in Burnham Park is idle compared to the well-manicured adjacent gardens.

A heritage garden should be thriving in recognition of its identity as pastureland of the Ibaloys – original inhabitants of Baguio.

The Ibaloy Heritage Garden can be developed as an urban agri-tourism destination. Growing thereat edible plants where Benguet is known for like Arabica coffee, gabi, camote, and hot pepper could be done to generate income for maintenance. The harvest can also be used during rituals, which is usually done at the area, especially during important occasions.

Ornamental plants, which the locality is also known for such as everlasting and calla lilies could be integrated in the magnificent landscape.

Having a souvenir shop and museum could also draw tourists to admire the ways of life and progress of the Ibaloys.
