Wrong pronunciation of Panagbenga
CHRIS D.B., Baguio City

I would just like to air my observation regarding how the word “Panagbenga” was pronounced by a reporter of a Manila-based television channel last Feb.24.

During weekend news at around 6 p.m., the reporter was reporting live about the celebration of the annual Baguio Flower Festival and I found it so awkward that this reporter really uttered the word “P-a-n-a-g-b-i-n-g-g-a” Festival.

I am not perfectionist when it comes to language but media must also research on how to properly pronounce dialects as a sign of respect also to the culture of Cordillerans.

It may be just a word but it sounds funny and awkward if they don’t pronounce it properly. The reporter could just say “Baguio Flower Festival,” to be safe.
